Class News - Spring 2010
Sixth Grade
The Sixth Grade has just wrapped up a block on Ancient
Rome; learning the significance of following rules,
working as a cohesive unit and the dangers and
temptation of power. This works seamlessly with the
children’s' struggle to find themselves as their etheric
and astral forces are causing them to rebel, and push
limits they have sometimes taken for granted, or not
even recognized. The stories of the various Caesars and
Emperors and their constant abuse of power were
captivating for the class.
We now shift into the study of Astronomy, balancing
out a unit on Geology which was held earlier. As the
year progresses, spirits soar and we are attempting to
view the constellations that make such a lovely display
in the night-time sky. Identifying major constellations
and their place in the ever-changing sky once again
helps the class realize its place in the universe and to
realize that there are numerous constellations that
constitute the heavens, not just our planet, or galaxy.
Poems by William Blake and John Keats will also be
utilized to elaborate and acknowledge man's timeless
fascination with the heavens.
The remainder of the spring has us looking forward to a
block of the Middle Ages, focusing on the Crusades and
the values of perseverance and lofty ambitions. We hope
to put some of our hard work and learned lessons to use
when we travel to participate in the Waldorf Medieval
Games for the Sixth Grade.
We will continue science with a look into Physics with a
focus on optics and sound and light waves. The Sixth
Grade is attempting to write music in conjunction with
Grades 7/8 for the spring musical. Working as a
cohesive unit is an experience that benefits all of our
classes' temperaments as well as focusing our energies in
a positive direction.
